“Trust yourself. You’ve survived a lot, and you’ll survive whatever is coming.” ~Robert Tew
“I have bad news. I am sorry. You have cancer.”
Sitting in the cold, clinical doctor’s office on a snowy, cloudy January day in Chicago, I was six months postpartum with my daughter, and I felt like I had woken up in a nightmare.
My husband had gone to work that day when I was supposed to have my stitches removed after the laparoscopic surgery to remove a large cyst, so I was alone with my daughter.
When Dr. Foley entered the room, I took one look at his face and knew something was wrong.
“Are you sure,” I asked? My daughter was munching away on her Sophie Giraffe in her stroller next to me.

On the Sonima Elev8d Fitness platform, there are 88 different exercises incorporated into hundreds of different workouts. Among those exercises is the Elev8d Bear Crawl. Brian Bradley, the fitness director for Elev8d, calls it a game-changer. Bradley has an exuberant and infectious love of helping people improve their lives through true fitness, and he tosses that phrase “game-changer” around pretty frequently. But in the case of this bear crawl, he’s right. Ours is different, and it will make you feel different.
Before we reveal how our bear crawl differs from others, first, a quick anatomy lesson. The body has eight load-bearing joints—the shoulders, hips, knees, and ankles. When those load-bearing joints are in alignment both vertically and horizontally, the body is symmetrical and functions the way it was designed to. However, when one of those joints gets out of align…

In today’s open access paper, researchers report that long-term supplementation with nicotinamide riboside in mice, starting from mid-life and continuing into old age, slows the pace of osteoporosis. The extracellular matrix of bone tissue is constantly remodeled over time, broken down by osteoclasts and built up by osteoblasts. Osteoporosis is caused by a growing imbalance between these two processes that favors destruction over creation. Bones lose mass and become brittle as a result, eventually becoming a serious health issue.
Many mechanisms are proposed to contribute to osteoporosis. <a href="https://www.fightaging.org/archives/2016/08/considering-the-mechanisms-and-tre…

“People will teach you how to love by not loving you back. People will teach you how to forgive by not apologizing. People will teach you kindness by their judgment. People will teach you how to grow by remaining stagnant. Pay attention when you’re going through pain and mysterious times. Listen to the wisdom life is trying to teach you.” ~Meredith Marple
“The ad was a misprint. We can’t offer you any monetary compensation for your writing, maybe dog treats.”
This is an actual response from a successful animal-themed magazine I was going to write for. This letter went on to say that if my love for animals exceeded my need for money, then they would be happy to have me write for them, which I took as a personal offense since I am a huge …

As far as emotions go, I’d say happiness is definitely one that takes maintenance, like a house plant. Sadness comes in like the weather, washing over us like a cold rain, or swelling within us like a rising tide. Both are dodgy, independent emotions, pulling our strings with little involvement from us directly. But anger, that’s an entirely different animal.
Anger is a ball of heat that we summon up like Wanda Maximoff does with her red energy blasts. But it doesn’t manifest as something cool like that — rather as regrettable texts, emails, Slack co…
