Creative people. They’re the rock stars, authors, and artists of the world. They’re the ones we look up to for their imagination and their talent.

They’re special, aren’t they? Those creative artists who create the music, books, and art we turn to when we want to dream.

I remember the first time I went to La Louvre in Paris, one of the most impressive art galleries in the world. A teenage art nerd, I couldn’t help but fall in love. I ogled the works of artists like Gericault and Da Vinci. They were people born to create works of creative genius.

As an author, I dreamed that one day I might create works that would be one hundredth the creative brilliance of those paintings adorning the walls of France’s most important gallery.

But where Da Vinci and Gericault were born for creative brilliance, I was not. Most of us are not. Right?

If we were born with creative talent we would surely know about it, wouldn’t we? Talent like that couldn’t be hiding somewhere, unbeknownst to us. Could it?

Cherry season is upon us and I am so happy!  Every year when it hits, I go crazy for cherries- any way I can get them.  Cherries are loaded with Queritrin, a flavonoid, that is a  potent anticancer agents. They are a low calorie, high fiber, portable  snack.  Cherries contain other compounds which help relieve and prevent arthritis and gout.  Tart cherries are rich in melatonin, an extremely important hormone that aids in sleep.  Drinking just two 8 oz servings per day can increase sleep by as much as 40 minutes a day.  They are high in beta carotene, the precursor to Vitamin A, important for eye health.   Cherries are also a good source of Vitamin C, calcium, protein and iron. The potassium in cherries plays a key role in muscle, heart, kidney and nerve cell functions.
Below is a simple breakfast to add cherries to your life.

Attachment theory was first developed by John Bowlby in the 1960’s. This is an evolutionary theory of attachment, which suggests that children come into the world biologically pre-programmed to form attachments with others (caregivers) because this allows them to survive, and the way in which you attach during childhood becomes the prototype for all future attachments.

I’ve been on a mission this past few weeks to find the real fun in fitness, and I’m glad to say it’s been a stonking success!

I’m talking pure, unadulterated, jump-up-and-down-excited kind of fun – the sort where you don’t realise how hard you’re working out until afterwards and you bounce home like a kid on Tangfastics. (Cherries, always the cherries).

The mission commenced at the Virgin Sport Hackney Festival of Fitness & 5.5k last month, a couple of weeks after a difficult Brighton Marathon where none of my plans came to fruition thanks to the glorious bloody weather we had.

I had a sinking feeling in my gut, and it was sounding some sort of alarm deep in my chest, making my heart do somersaults. She was serious. Clearly the shock was holding my throat hostage because all I could muster was a single word…

“Okay,” I replied quietly, and off she went, oblivious to the impact her passive aggressive requests were having on me.

I had just returned to work from maternity leave, and with three children aged six and under at home, I needed some flexibility in my work schedule.

I was clocking in while it was still dark outside, long before anyone else so I could get home to my little ones with enough time for quality cuddles before tucking them in for the night.

Hey guys! It’s been so fun hearing all your pregnancy stories and advice this week – thank you again for sharing in our excitement! (In case you missed it: I’m pregnant! Here’s the announcement post, here’s a 1st trimester Q&A post, and yesterday’s blog post announced the sex of the baby!)

And now, let’s chat about food and fitness this week, starting with food! I generally feel better/more into my normal meals at breakfast and lunchtime, so I’ve been trying to get in lots of veggies at lunch in particular. 🙂 Salad bars have been helpful because I can get all sorts of random stuff – Tuesday’s lunch was some salmon pasta salad, sliced cucumber and peas, a big scoop of guac, a garlicky kale salad, some tofu, and a little sweet potato. Whatever works!
