Add Hemp To Your Diet

Source http://refineryfitnesspdx.com/add-hemp-to-your-diet/

Hemp seeds are one of the new darlings of the health food world and when you take a look at their nutritional profile, you understand why. Hemp is known for its ideal concentrations of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids(1-3 ratio)  which have the potential to beneficially influence heart disease and improve skin issues.  Hemp seeds contain all of the essential and non-essential amino acids making it a complete protein- a perfect vegan protein source. (In fact, 3 tablespoons of hemp seeds contain 11 grams of protein.)  They contain GLA (gamma linolenic acid), a building block of anti-inflammatory hormones that can also help reduce menopause symptoms.  Hemp seeds are chock full of  disease-fighting, plant-based phytonutrients and anti-aging antioxidants such as vitamin E.  It also adds vitamins and  minerals including Vitamin A, Vitamin D, zinc, calcium, phosphorous, magnesium and iron.

People often ask if eating hemp seeds will lead to the same high as smoking marijuana.  While the two do come from the same plant, Cannabis Sativa, marijuana is bred to have a high THC level while hemp is bred to contain only trace amounts of THC, the psychoactive component of cannabis sativa.  Because hemp lacks the THC, eating hemp seeds will not produce a high.

Hemp seeds have a mild flavor similar to chopped walnuts.  They are excellent in both smoothies and  baked goods, sprinkled on salads or in yogurt and are often made into a source for vegan…

The Hows of Body Fat Testing

Source http://www.karpfitness.com/the-hows-of-body-fat-testing/

The dreaded bathroom scale is used most often to monitor fitness level, but, while weight provides handy, frequent feedback, it can also be misleading. For many reasons, body fat testing is usually much more useful. Traditional scales cannot separate weight from fat and muscle, which is problematic since muscle, being denser and more fibrous, weighs more than fat. As a … Read More

What to Do After a Breakup to End Painful Relationship Patterns

couple is walking in the rain under an umbrella, abstract colorful oil painting

“When writing the story of your life, don’t let anyone else hold the pen.” ~Unknown

After my kids grew up and I moved to the city from the suburbs, I became somewhat of a professional dater. I was determined to make up for lost time after over a decade as a single mom, and I was optimistic about my future.

My hopes were dashed almost immediately. Relationship after relationship crashed and burned, rarely lasting more than a few weeks. As soon as they’d walk out the door, sometimes within minutes, I’d fire up whatever dating website I was on at the time and begin again.

I’ll never forget writing a new profile with a box of Kleenex on my lap and taking breaks to cry. I went out on dates feeling like the walking wounded, thinking that was the best thing to do. Just get back on the horse as soon as possible.

After hundreds of dates and a long-term relationship, I found a better way to navigate breakups. The next time a relationship ended, I was determined to take the opportunity to build a better life for myself instead of simply running out to see who I could date next.

Breaking up is tough. It can be one of the most miserable experiences of a person’s …

Day in the Life of a Dietitian Blogger

Good morning! Let’s mix it up with another Day in the Life post today. As you guys know, I split my time between the blog and my AnneTheRD nutrition counseling private practice (as well as its associated programs, like my Joyful Eating Program). Here’s what I was up to on Tuesday! :)

day in the life of a registered dietitian blogger

6:05 a.m. – Alarm goes off. Out of bed, change into workout clothes, snack on a little paleo banana bread (obsessed) and Vega pre-workout energizer (not pictured).

WTF, Santa? Telling a Kid to Lay Off the Fries Is Not Cool

Source http://greatist.com/live/santa-fat-shames-boy-tells-him-lay-off-the-fries?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=feed_http–greatistcom-

How’s this for holiday cheer? A Santa in North Carolina reportedly told a 9-year-old boy, “Lay off the hamburgers and french fries.” While the comment is laughably ironic coming from Santa (he eats milk and cookies all night long), it’s also all sorts of messed up—and it reminds us of a bigger problem too.

There’s no escaping sweets around the holidays (not that we’d want to). And we all seem to have that family member who takes it upon themselves to ask us, “Do you really want seconds?” Saying something that makes others feel guilty about how much (or little) they eat only makes things worse. If you’re legitimately concerned about a relative’s health, bring it up one-on-one, not at the dinner table. You can bet if anyone asks us if we really need that second piece of pie, they’ll get a piece of our minds too.

Weekend

Hey guys! Matt and I had another low key weekend at home, starting with some Friday night soup!

sun basket review coupon code

We made a delicious sausage, squash, and veggie soup that was from last week’s Sun Basket (<- affiliate link for 3 free meals) delivery. This was one of our favorite meals so far – so good! Perfect for a cold night. Reminded me of my Butternut Squash and Turkey Chili (<- recipe)!

She Weighs the Same in Both Photos—the Change Is Something You Can't See

Source http://greatist.com/live/before-and-after-photo-about-learning-to-love-your-body?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=feed_http–greatistcom-

We’ve all cringed while looking at photos we’re in—we’d like to forget all about the school photos we took during our awkward years. But for some, those pics can lead to a serious downward spiral of self-harm.

In a viral post on Instagram, Megan Jayne Crabbe (a.k.a. @bodyposipanda) shares a photo from three years ago that made her feel so awful about her body that she began crash dieting. Today she’s the same size she was back then. The only difference is she’s learned to embrace her body. As Crabbe writes, “The problem is not your body, the problem is how you’ve been taught to view your body.” Check out the rest of her kick-ass message below:
