How My Fear of the Unknown Sabotages Relationships

I was talking with a friend one day at work, and we were discussing dating and the rejection that comes with that and the sense of failure and disappointment.

We were talking about how we struggle to even get close to dating someone because we get in our own way, and our thoughts stop us from moving forward because we’re scared. We’re scared, so we blow the situation up with our inability to sit with the uneasiness of not knowing what the other person’s intentions are and whether or not this new potential partner can be trusted.

Weekend reading: the latest on plant-based meat and dairy alternatives

Source https://www.foodpolitics.com/2019/12/plant-based-a-round-up/

I don’t know about you but I am having a hard time keeping up with what’s happening in the market for plant-based meat and dairy substitutes.

For one thing, they are under attack from meat producers.  Here’s the latest on the politics.

Why the attack.  Just take a look at what I’ve collected on this topic in the past couple of weeks.  You can see at a glance why this trend is taking off.  Everyone wants to get into this act in every way they can.

Gero-Punk Dharma

I have a recurring memory of meeting for an interview with one of my spiritual teachers.  How many years ago did this meeting take place? I think several, perhaps even a decade has passed.  I was struggling with memories around personal and family wounds over-taking me during my contemplation and meditation practices.  My teacher responded […]

The Paradox of Change: An Analogy Between the Women’s Movement and the Positive Ageing Movement.

I was fortunate enough to be an active participant in the Women’s Movement of the 60s and 70s. Not only was this pressure group dynamically underway but the mood of this era was vibrant: the back and foreground of exciting change included the Peace Movement, new music, different ways of being, Woodstock, love-ins, gurus, LSD, […]

Three evidence-based ways to develop a resilient mind

Life throws chaos at us on a regular basis—whether it’s our finances, our relationships, or our health. In the work world, around 50 percent of people are burned out in industries like health care, banking, and nonprofits, and employers spend $300 billion per year on workplace-related stress.

In response, we just keep on pushing through, surviving on adrenaline. We overschedule ourselves; we drink another coffee; we respond to one more email. If we stay amped up all the time, we think, we’ll eventually be able to get things done.

But all that does is burn us out, drain our productivity, and lead to exhaustion.

There’s another way—a calmer way. Cultivating a more restful, relaxed state of mind doesn’t mean we’ll drown under all our responsibilities. Inst…

Immortal Style: Facing A Wendy Brandes Jewelry Ad Campaign

My first response to the unretouched photos was colored by my inner ageist. I felt exposed, vulnerable and unmasked, with my 76 year old skin photographed close-up and very personal. My inner ageist dislikes the skin changes that appear with aging. My inner activist loves them. Many times I don’t live up to my own expectations when confronting ageism
