An overly simplistic view of the lymphatic system is that it is network of highways and collaboration centers for the cells of the immune system. Immune cells use lymphatic vessels to travel about the body, while the hundreds of lymph nodes scattered throughout the lymphatic system are important locations at which immune cells exchange information about signatures of infection and damage, managing the immune response.
