In Search of Natural Senolytics to Substitute for Dasatinib

Dasatinib and quercetin used in combination clears a fraction of lingering senescent cells in aging mice, producing a sizable degree of rejuvenation, and reversal of aspects of many different age-related conditions. In humans, clinical trials are underway at a sedate pace. Dasatinib is a chemotherapeutic small molecule, while quercetin is a plant extract flavonol. Here, researchers discuss their search for plant extract alternatives that mimic the effects of dasatinib, in the hopes of produ…

Innate Immune cGAS/STING Signaling is Both Necessary and Pathological

Source https://www.fightaging.org/archives/2024/05/innate-immune-cgas-sting-signaling-is-both-necessary-and-pathological/

Chronic, unresolved inflammation is a feature of aging. When the immune system is constantly active in this way, the consequent altered cell behavior throughout the body becomes disruptive to tissue and organ function, harmful to the individual. Chronic inflammation accelerates the onset and progression of all of the common fatal age-related conditions. This unwanted inflammatory signaling arises from many different roots, including the growing presence of senescent cells, but also the interaction of innate immune sensors with other forms of age-related dysfunction. For example, damage-associated molecular pa…

How I Found Purpose When I Lost It at Work

“The mystery of human existence lies not in just staying alive, but in finding something to live for.” ~Fyodor Dostoyevsky

When I was in my last semester of college in 2016, I got my first paid job working in libraries as a childrens library assistant. I can remember the passion and sense of purpose I initially felt when taking this job. The idea that, every day, Id be helping foster a love of reading in kids felt like a worthwhile career.

Reading supports cognitive development in children. It enhances language skills and improves concentration. It encourages creativity and even fosters empathy, as it in…

The Therapeutic Potential of Transdifferentiation

Source https://www.fightaging.org/archives/2024/05/the-therapeutic-potential-of-transdifferentiation/

Transdifferentiation is the use of various techniques to convert a somatic cell of one type directly into a somatic cell of another type. This is an alternative to first using Yamanaka factors to dedifferentiate somatic cells into induced pluripotent stem cells, then guiding differentiation into the desired final somatic cell type. For both differentiation from pluripotency to somatic cell and transdifferentiation between somatic cells, a suitable recipe of factors and altered gene expression mu…

Did you miss one? Aging and Health Tech blog posts from April 2024

Source https://www.ageinplacetech.com/blog/did-you-miss-one-aging-and-health-tech-blog-posts-april-2024

The tech user experience for all ages is mostly depressing.  A few delighters here and there break up a constant struggle to produce the right command, find the right part of the right website, and overcome the insanity of bug-fixing updates after updates.  And that is if you are well-trained and proficient.  Whether it is a phone, a tablet, or a much-needed website, we curse and complain – and then there’s another software update and a new set of complaints. We struggle with appliance and car interfaces, trying to understand the rationale for buttons and screens that are cluttered with too much information. Stay tuned for the May, 2024 report about these user exper…

20 Self-Care Quotes to Keep You Mentally and Emotionally Strong

Source https://tinybuddha.com/blog/20-self-care-quotes-to-keep-you-mentally-and-emotionally-strong/

It’s a new week, and that can bring with it a sense of excitement and possibility or a sense of dread about your overwhelming responsibilities. Sometimes for me it’s both.

And not just because I have a lot to do, but also because, like most of us, I have a lot going in my head and my heart at any given time. And it’s not always easy to be a feeling human in a busy world that won’t just slow down when it all feels like too much. Which means sometimes we need to stop instead.

Stop doing. Stop pushing ourselves. Stop ignoring our needs. Stop avoiding our feelings. Stop expecting more from ourselves than we’d ever demand from anyone else we love. And start listening to the voice inside that knows what’s best for us so we can feel and be our best.

Whatever you’re feeling …

Reviewing Present Biomarkers of Aging

Source https://www.fightaging.org/archives/2024/05/reviewing-present-biomarkers-of-aging-2/

Here find an open access review of the present landscape of biomarkers of aging, both single measures and composite measures of various sorts, such as the aging clocks developed over the past fifteen years. The development of a good, consensus measure of biological age would accelerate efforts to treat aging as a medical condition, as assessing the ability of various classes of treatment to slow or reverse aging is at present a slow and expensive process – the only proven approach is a life span study. Unfortunately, all present approaches to the assessment of biological age have their challenges. The accumulation of large amounts of data for analysis proceeds in parallel with the development of better aging clocks that seek to address the known issues.
