While beer is great all on its own, recent spins on the drink (beyond the usual “chilled” or “less chilled”) have us looking at our favorite suds in a brand-new way.
Often called “beertails” or “bocktails,” these beer cocktail concoctions blend brews with delicious beverages like lemonade, vodka, or all the liquor in your house. Citrus fruits make especially good mix-ins by punching up preexisting flavors. Try one of these beer cocktail recipes, and we think you’ll agree.

“Perfectionism is the exhausting state of pretending to know it all and have it all together, all the time. I’d rather be a happy mess than an anxious stress case who’s always trying to hide my flaws and mistakes.” ~Lori Deschene
“That’s not how you do it!” I slammed the door as I headed outside, making sure my husband understood what an idiot he was. He’d made the appalling mistake of roasting potatoes for Thanksgiving instead of making stuffing.
He was cooking while I studied, trying to make sure I got a semblance of a holiday. We lived away from our families, and I had exams coming up. I was on the verge of losing it most of the time—and he was walking on eggshells. Or roasted potatoes.
I was in my first year of law school. Every student k…

Chocolate lovers, rejoice! Our beloved Easy Baked Cheesecake is a fan favorite (and for good reason), but there’s a new treat in town stealing our hearts: Chocolate Cheesecake! We already have No-Bake Chocolate Cheesecakes on the blog, but this new baked version really takes things to the next level.
A perfectly tender chocolate cookie crust is topped with a rich, creamy, not-too-sweet chocolate cheesecake layer and fresh raspberry sauc…

Friends, prepare yourselves for the ultimate flavor-packed, comfort-filled, fall-infused side: wild rice salad! This dish is our favorite kind: low effort, BIG reward! It’s simple to prepare but doesn’t skimp on flavor (hello mushrooms, hazelnuts, cranberries, and fresh herbs!)
Not only that, but it can be served warm or at room temperature — perfect for when those other holiday dishes are running a bit behind (please tell us we’re not the only ones)!

I can’t remember how many times this has happened: ready to roll on a recipe, chef’s knife in hand, perfectly mise en place’d, and gah! No chicken stock! Instead of starting over—or worse, getting back in the car—a bit of bouillon can go a long way when you need a flavor punch in a pinch.

The UK is somewhat further ahead than the US when it comes to progress towards an official government policy on medical research and development aimed at increasing healthy longevity. A variety of groups are attempting to influence the political and bureaucratic class into seeing the benefits, and are doing so in a more organized and well supported fashion than is the case for US lobbying efforts. Today’s article is an example of this sort of approach from the UK lobbying community.
For my part, I believe that meaningful success in such initiatives requires the first rejuvenation therapies to have been deployed in human trials, with solid evidence for significant benefits to result to patients. The best thing we can do at this stage of th…

Here’s everything you need to make great-tasting coffee at home.
At this point we probably all know a coffee snob—that aspiring at-home barista whose arsenal of coffee tools (a Chemex, a French press, a hulking espresso machine) rivals your local coffee shop. But if the idea of trying to figure out a coffee syphon (they use them in Japan!) sends you running toward your automatic coffee drip machine, or worse, that tub of instant coffee, do…
