Curry Roasted Parsnip Fries

Curry Roasted Parsnip Fries

Parsnips don’t get much love, and we think that should change. Perhaps this recipe will convince you to give them a try!

Why we love them as fries: They’re crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, cook really fast, and have the texture of a sweet potato fry with the taste of a potato-carrot hybrid (so good, right?). And when tossed in a bit of oil, salt, and our go-to vibrant curry powder, the flavors are perfectly balanced.

The more tech changes: A decade of older adult Technology Surveys

Source https://www.ageinplacetech.com/blog/more-tech-changes-decade-older-adult-technology-surveys

Few of the oldest are ever surveyed about tech adoption – least of all using paper. Link-Age Connect has surveyed the oldest about tech use since 2011, with periodic surveys fielded to older adults via their member organizations. In 2011, that represented 122,000 residents drawn from its member communities across 22 states.  The member communities in 2011 distributed 5000 paper surveys and got back 1789 completed, a 35% response rate, many completed with assistance for people with limited vision or mobility, all of which were transcribed for analysis and use in the published report., <a href="https://www.ageinplacetech.com/page/linkage-technology-survey-age…

14 Healthy Turmeric Recipes That Show Why the Golden Spice Is Still Trending

Source https://greatist.com/eat/healthy-turmeric-recipes

Turmeric has been and continues to pop up all over trendy food lists. Though research is still a little hazy on whether or not its health benefits are as extensive as everyone thinks, it’s safe to say, turmeric has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits.

Plus, it adds a bright color and peppery taste to pretty much any meal, and works great in grains, soups, smoothies, and proteins (aka our favorite foods). It’s not just for turmeric tea anymore! If you’re not on the turmeric train yet and haven’t cooked with the root before, know that you can buy it ground or fresh. The fresh kind is similar to ginger: Peel the skin off and then grate or cut off pieces to cook with.

What Kept Me Stuck on My Ex and How I’m Breaking the Addiction

“When you stop chasing the wrong things, you give the right things a chance to catch you.” ~Unknown

I might be addicted to feeling good. I’m no stranger to pleasure, and I want what I want unapologetically. But there’s a conflict that arises when one of the things I want is distracting me from having an even bigger thing I want.

My story is so common, it’s almost cliché.

Man and woman meet on Tinder. They are both vague enough about what they want that they dive in without really knowing where it will go. They develop trust, intimacy, and discover shared values and approach to life. Along the way, they get clearer about what they want.

Said man and woman decide they aren’t on the same page in terms of where their relationship is headed. They break up…

Successfully Treating Fibrosis in Mice via the Senolytic Strategy of Bcl-2 Inhibition

Source https://www.fightaging.org/archives/2021/09/successfully-treating-fibrosis-in-mice-via-the-senolytic-strategy-of-bcl-2-inhibition/

It has to be said, today’s research materials make for a fascinating read. A group of scientists, in 2021, a decade into the general acceptance of the importance of cellular senescence as a phenomenon, conducts a study of lung fibrosis in which they achieve a reversal of that fibrosis using a bcl-2 inhibitor, venetoclax, and then publish a paper that fails to mention cellular senescence even once.

Fibrosis is a dysfunction of tissue maintenance, producing scar-like collagen deposits that disrupt tissue function. There is a weight of evidence for fibrosis as a phenomenon to be <a href="https://www.fightaging.org/archives/2020/01/a-start-on-establishing-how-senescent-cells-drive-fibrosis-in…

More Blood Pressure Control is Better than Less Blood Pressure Control

Source https://www.fightaging.org/archives/2021/09/more-blood-pressure-control-is-better-than-less-blood-pressure-control/

The epidemiological evidence of recent years shows that a greater control of blood pressure is beneficial, reducing mortality and incidence of age-related conditions. Hypertension, raised blood pressure, is characteristic of age and very damaging to fragile tissues throughout the body. That damage adds up over time, and is a major contribution to age-related degeneration. A sizable component of age-related hypertension is lifestyle related, rather than an inexorable consequence of the mechanisms of aging, and thus avoidable. Further, a range of comparatively safe drugs can force a lowering of blood pressure, overriding dysfunction in blood pressure regulation. Even without addressing underlying causes related to the mechanisms of aging, this can produce a meaningful reduction in mortality and <a href="http…

A Brief Tour of Work on Reprogramming as an Approach to the Treatment of Aging

Source https://www.fightaging.org/archives/2021/09/a-brief-tour-of-work-on-reprogramming-as-an-approach-to-the-treatment-of-aging/

A recent popular science article from the Lifespan.io team provides a high level introduction to cellular reprogramming as a potential approach to the treatment of aging. Since the discovery that somatic cells can be reprogrammed to become induced pluripotent stem cells, essentially the same as embryonic stem cells, most exploration has focused on the cost-effective production of specific cell types for use in research and cell therapies. More recently, however, researchers have applied reprogramming strategies directly to tissues in living animals in order to improve heat…
