Much of the proceedings at Undoing Aging in Berlin earlier this year were recorded, but of course it takes a few months for everything to process through the queue. I briefly escaped from the conference for an ad hoc, unstructured discussion with Adam Ford of Science, Technology, and the Future, who, like the Life Extension Advocacy Foundation folk, was interviewing as many people as he could during the event. It wound up a monologue on topics that were at the top of my mind at the time, particularly the present state of funding and the transformation of our community from a primary focus on advocacy and academic research to one in which a great deal of important work is now carried out in startup companies, and the utilitarian ethics of treating aging as a medical condition. The resulting video is now…

The tickle treatment is called transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation (tVNS). The procedure involves placing custom-made clips containing electrodes on the part of your ear called the tragus; that’s the small, pointed tip above your ear lobe.

I’ve been working with a few people who are very intelligent, very competent, and very talented — but they get stuck in indecision and analysis paralysis.
In effect, overthinking and getting lost in endless options reduces their effectiveness and intelligence by producing inaction.
Taking any action is likely to be better than inaction and indecision, but we can get so caught up in trying to find the perfect decision that we make no decision.
The answer is to cut through the indecision and overthinking with action.
Before we talk about that, let’s look at what’s going on with smart, competent people who get stuck in their beautiful minds.
The Trap of Overthinking
For someone who doesn’t see a lot of possibilities, sometimes a choice is easy — you just choose the one that looks obvious.

So of course I had to look up the study. It’s not one I would ordinarily have noticed because its title does not use the word “probiotic,” which typically refers to the live bacteria (in yogurt, for example). The evidence for benefits of probiotics is iffy, so this study raises lots of questions.

I know you’re all looking for something to cool you off this time of the year, and I’ve got just the soup for you! This Cold Cucumber Soup is ideal for an appetizer or a lunch recipe when it’s simply too hot to turn on the stove or oven.
Adding two ripe avocados makes this soup extra creamy and flavorful. Plus, avocados are loaded with filling fiber and carotenoids. These antioxidants help fight off disease and maintain eye health. And when you add the healthy fats found in avocado, you absorb even more good-for-you carotenoids. Avocados are also a good source of vitamin K, copper, folate, and vitamin B6, which are great nutrients to have, especially this time of the year when you’re out and about doing more activity than the winter months.
