The Best Vegan Christmas Cookies

Source https://www.nomeatathlete.com/vegan-christmas-cookies/

It’s not the lights, trees, or shopping that gets me in the Christmas spirit.

It’s not the vegan eggnog either (although I do love vegan eggnog).

I know I’m ready for Christmas when I’m rolling out cookie dough on Christmas Eve.

For as long as I can remember, I have baked and decorated Christmas cookies together with my family, and for me, it embodies everything that’s beautiful about the season — family, tradition, sweets, and laughter.

So now — just a few days before Christmas — it’s time to start baking.

Below are two cookie recipes perfect for Christmas.

The first is the classic Christmas sugar cookie, just like the ones I’ve grown up decorating for years.

The second is a twist on Stepfanie Romine’s famous Calorie Bomb Cookies from the No Meat Athlete C…

A New Approach to Improving Flexibility

Source https://www.sonima.com/fitness/fitness-articles/flexibility/

When your shoulders get tight from constantly sitting hunched over your computer or phone, you might do a quick stretch for a little relief. When your hips get sore from sitting too much—or the opposite, moving too much—you might spend some quality time with a foam roller. These are common responses to soothing so-called “tight muscles”.

But here’s the thing: These aches or knots often give you insight into other areas of your body (not just that specific muscle) and your overall alignment. For instance, tight hamstrings could mean you have a limited range of motion in the joints above and below the muscle, or your pelvis, knee, or lower leg, says Pete Egoscue, co-founder of Elev8d Fitness, a total-body eight-minute workout program developed by the experts of Sonima.

The Unexpected Impact of Growing Up with a Difficult Mother

Source http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/tinybuddha/~3/fh_3ocOoWYM/

“Difficulties in your life do not come to destroy you, but to help you realise your hidden potential and power, let difficulties know that you too are difficult.” ~Abdul Kalam

Do you sometimes daydream that your mom is gone, and all your troubles disappear along with her?

I used to imagine that, too.

When Mom was in intensive care, swaying between life and death, I sat outside, shell-shocked, trembling all over my body, trying to comprehend the doctor’s words: “Her condition is critical, and only time will show if she will make it. I’m sorry.”

For a moment, I imagined that Mom was going to die right there, in that old hospital building with rotundas, pylons, and stucco ceilings.

Collagen vs. Gelatin: How to Choose the Right One for You

Source https://greatist.com/health/collagen-vs-gelatin

Curious about collagen? Wondering if you’ll gel better with gelatin? Or just don’t know what the heck the difference even is? We’re here to help.

Real quick: Collagen and gelatin are extremely similar in their nutritional value and in the benefits they offer, but very different in how they’re used.

Collagen is a protein that’s found in all (human and animal) connective tissue, skin, and bones. It is also the most abundant protein in the human body.

Collagen comes from the Greek word “kólla,” which means glue. And that’s kind of what collagen does inside of the body — it acts as an important glue that holds everything together.

Gelatin is a mixture of amino acid chains that forms when collagen is heated or treated with certain chemicals. This treatment causes some chemical bonds within collagen to break.

So even though gelatin…

How to Make Someone Smile: 10 Mindful Acts of Kindness

“The greatest gifts you can give someone are your time, your love, and your attention.” ~Unknown

The other day I saw this phrase on social media: “Spread kindness, not COVID-19.” And I started thinking about how kindness is contagious, which reminded me of a viral video I’ve always loved:

A skateboarding kid falls, and a construction worker helps him up. The kid then sees an elderly woman struggling with grocery bags and helps her carry them across the street. That woman then gives coins to a woman at a parking meter who’s rifling through her purse. And on and on it goes—one act of kindness rippling through the city as each person pays it forward to someone else.

Reminder: 8 Practices to Get Still & Calm

Source https://zenhabits.net/8practices/

By Leo Babauta

These days, it’s always nice to have reminders to become present, to pause into stillness, and to calm ourselves down.

Chaos rules most of our lives, and every reminder we get can be helpful.

Today I’m going to share some simple practices that won’t be new to most of you, but that are simple reminders to bring into your day.

I highly encourage you to write these on cards, sticky notes, phone lock screens and other places you’ll see them during the day.

  1. Pause and breathe. Simply take a moment a handful of times during the day to pause, and check in with your breath. Notice how you feel. Get present to your surroundings.
  2. Go slowly, and savor. With a meal, eat each bite slowly, pause and breathe between bites, and really and truly savor each bite. How often do we give ourselves this gift? And we can do this with an…
