Where's The Beef? Wyoming Ranchers Bet On Blockchain To Track It

Some of the cattle grazing on the Persson Ranch are tracked using blockchain technology, which may allow consumers to know where their meat comes from and more.

By tagging cattle and updating their data about their free-range, grass-fed quality of life using blockchain, some ranchers are hoping to solve paper tracking pitfalls and sell their beef for more.

Weekend Adventures Part 1: Happy Hour + Fun Run

Source https://www.fannetasticfood.com/weekend-adventures-part-1-happy-hour-fun-run/

Hi guys! We did a lot this weekend so I’m breaking up the action into two posts. Here’s part 1!

On Friday night, Matt, Riese, and I had a fun outing – happy hour! It was sooo hot out but still nice to get out and about and mix it up. We both enjoyed a beer and shared some apps – seared tuna + deviled eggs. Both delicious!

When we got home neither of us was super hungry so we just had a bunch of cut up veggies (bell pepper, cucumber, and carrots) with hummus and crackers and called that the rest of dinner. It worked! And yay for very minimal dinner clean up. 🙂

On Saturday morning, we had a fun adventure planned: a run date with my brother and his fiance, who were in town for their engagement party that evening.

The Importance of Finding and Standing in Our Truth

Source http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/tinybuddha/~3/WWdKx7bGjS4/

“What I know for sure is that you feel real joy in direct proportion to how connected you are to living your truth.” ~Oprah Winfrey

If we cannot live in and from our truth, then we cannot be authentic. The process of self- actualization is not striving to become the person we are supposed to be. It is removing what is not true for or about us so that we can be the person that we already are.

The hardest part of living in my truth was coming to understand and accept that it didn’t matter how anyone else experienced my childhood and my life but myself. That includes my father, mother, and three siblings. It also didn’t matter how others were affected or not. For our recovery only our truth matters

Why is standing in our truth so important? It is impossible to build a solid life on a foundation of untruths, lies, denial, fabrications, and misinterpretations.

Many of us have built our lives according to what we were taught and what we gleaned from a childhood spent in dysfunctional homes. We were asked to play a role that served our dysfunctional family system and not ourselves. We learned not to question the status quo, to follow unwritten …

Focus on Peaches

Source http://refineryfitnesspdx.com/focus-on-peaches/

The other night one of my friends invited me over for a barbecue.  One of the items on her menu was grilled peaches.  They were so tasty- soft but not mushy and filled with flavor. Summer time is one of my favorite times of year because of the abundance of peaches and other stone fruit.  I find that once I start eating them, it is hard to stop.  The good thing about this over indulgence is peaches are loaded with health promoting properties.

One medium raw peach has only roughly 50 calories and is very low in fat while still having 2 grams of regularity producing fiber as well as 1 gram of protein.

Peaches are an excellent source of vitamin C, important in the formation of collagen, the support system of your skin.   Vitamin C is also a powerful antioxidant that can  help fight the formation of free radicals known to cause cancer.

Peaches’ relatively high fiber content is important for both regularity and in helping to combat diabetes.

Peaches are high in potassium which may help to reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease.  Potassium is an important part of the body and cell fluids that help regulate heart rate and blood pressure.

What to Do If You Feel Trapped by Your Circumstances

Source http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/tinybuddha/~3/pTuoloeECgE/

“As long as we know we’re trapped, we still have a chance to escape.” ~Sara Grant

Talking to someone last week who had to ‘volunteer’ to return to their country of birth, a country defined by the United Nations as one of the least developed in the world in terms of its economic conditions, was humbling.

While I often find myself feeling trapped by the longevity, monotony, and intensity involved in child rearing, I wasn’t sure what I could say that might help someone who had been the victim of identity theft and, through lack of resources, had no option but to leave their family and the country they considered home.

Hearing how anxious, depressed, and lonely she felt, I wondered what I could say that might make a difference. Then, as I relaxed, I realized that our situations might not be entirely different after all.

I won’t deny that my quality of life in terms of living conditions and freedom to move around is fabulous. And I cannot deny, having lived this way, to have that taken away would feel dreadful. But I knew my sympathy would do nothing to change her circumstances.

Instead, I took a different approach and, after the conversation that follo…

Screw Fat Loss

The goal of fat loss isn’t (usually) the problem. It’s the mindset that often evolves from a seemingly never-ending fat loss pursuit. Fat loss isn’t executed as a simple objective, structured process that lasts for a designated time — it gradually morphs into a definitive, emotionally-fueled, all-consuming infinite lifestyle.

This unrelenting, long-term focus on fat loss is brutally effective for one thing: making women chronically dissatisfied with their bodies.

The Deep-Rooted Fat Loss Mindset

If you’ve spent more than several months, or years, constantly thinking about shedding fat, it’s time to terminate the fat loss mindset, and take a new approach.

Tons of women vow to more closely “watch what they eat” or to work out more frequently, lamenting the pounds that have packed on gradually over the years. The only goal a woman can have is slimming down; her actions in the gym and kitchen must be offered as a sacrifice to the fat loss gods. At least, that’s how it seems for women who, for years, have been focusi…

Weekend Adventures Part 2

Source https://www.fannetasticfood.com/weekend-adventures-part-2/

Hi guys! I’m back to recap part 2 of the weekend. If you missed part 1, check that out first!

The big highlight of our weekend was my brother Steve and his fiance Roxanne’s engagement party!

They had the engagement party at a cool Airbnb in Old Town, Alexandria. It’s a space specifically for parties – beautiful!

Roxanne used to run a food start up in Raleigh, and she became friends with a number of chefs in that area; one of them is Jacob Boehm, who owns Snap Pea Catering. It’s a cool pop-up catering company that focuses on fresh, local, and seasonal food. They catered the event, and the food was fantastic – so creative and unique presentations, too.

Is DEET Really Bad for You (and Is There a Better Bug Spray)?

Source https://greatist.com/live/is-deet-safe?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=feed_https–greatistcom–

DEET stinks. When I spray myself with Off! before heading out to a summer concert, I always end up coughing and wheezing, a victim of my own chemical warfare—but I also never return home with mosquito bites. The next time I’m at the store, though, I notice all those other options on the shelf, and half the time, I succumb to the allure of “all-natural essential oils” that smell lovely and promise to be just as effective at keeping bugs at bay. But after my next outing to a rooftop bar, I end up lying awake, scratching, wondering whether I just contracted West Nile or Zika.

I go through this dilemma every summer and have come to assume that whether I go with super-effective, DEET-filled bug repellents or gentle, better-for-you-seeming alternatives, I’m just picking my (literal) poison.

But I might be assuming wrong. The scientific and medical communities have looked at this time and again, and their overwhelming conclusion is that DEET is not going to kill us. To the contrary, it is one of the best ways to avoid mosquito- and tick-borne diseases. Sho…
