There is some evidence for the gut microbiome to play an important role in a range of comparatively poorly understood conditions involving pain, inflammation, and at least the suspicion of autoimmunity, from the better researched rheumatoid arthritis to the dark forest of overlapping symptoms containing fibromyalgia, myofascial pain syndrome, idiopathic peripheral neuropathies, and more.
