Cisd2 is one of the few genes shown to regulate life span in both directions in animal models; less of it shortens life span, while overexpression extends life. Researches here focus on the effects of cisd2 on liver function in mice, showing that maintaining high levels of cisd2 expression into old age beneficially impacts a number of processes implicated in degenerative aging and liver disease.
