Family fun often means new activities and destinations but a new study suggests leisure time spent at home in familiar pastimes may be a better route to happiness.

The lead author of a newly published study in the World Leisure Journal, Dr. Karen K. Melton, assistant professor of child and family studies at Baylor University talks causality:

Guest Blog by Jessie Thomas, DPT

Day in and day out, my patients’ say things like ”There’s PT for this? I’ve had two kids so of course I leak when I exercise!” I usually respond by saying, ”Yes and I am so glad you’re here! Your symptoms are common, but not normal.” The pelvic floor muscles are so important but most people don’t even know that this type of PT exists.” So, let me back up and explain what pelvic floor muscle rehabilitation entails and how you or someone you know may benefit from this type of physical therapy.

The pelvic floor muscles are part of the deep core. They attach from the pubic bone in front of the pelvis to the tailbone at the back of the pelvis as well as from sit bone to sit bone. They can be described as a s…

The World Health Organization has already urged us to cut back on sugar, limiting added sugars to no more than 10 percent of our daily calories.

So, how might policymakers get people to follow this advice? In a new report, the WHO is urging governments around the world to <a href="http://apps.who.int/iris/bitstream/10665/250131/1/9789241511247-eng.p…

Driving2Brain training could add years behind the wheel (Futurity):

“Older adults who participate in training designed to improve cognitive ability are more likely to continue driving over the next 10 years than those who don’t, research shows.

For a new study, published in the journal The Gerontologist, researchers studied the effects of three different cognitive training programs—reasoning, memory, and divided attention—on driving cessation in older adults…Participants who completed either the reasoning or divided-attention training were between 55 and 49 percent more likely to still be drivers 10 years after the study began than those who did not receive training. Randomly select…
