Fix Your Rear-Foot-Elevated Split Squat

Source https://www.niashanks.com/fix-rear-foot-elevated-split-squat/

fix your rear foot elevated split squatThe most common complaint with the rear-foot-elevated split squat (other than it being a brutal exercise that can leave you waddling the day after): Feeling a straining sensation, or discomfort, in the hip flexor or quad of the elevated leg.

The discomfort may likely be caused by three potential problems, all are thankfully easy to fix.

Watch this quick video to fix your rear-foot-elevated split squat.

Possible problem 1) The bench or platform the rear foot is resting on is too high.

If you feel pain in your hip flexor or quads, try using a lower bench or platform. If a lower surface isn’t available, elevate the front foot a few inches by standing on a weight plate or sturdy platform.

Possible prob…

Deconstructing Shame: How to Break Free from Your Past

Source http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/tinybuddha/~3/D3avOmz-aJI/

“We cannot grow when we are in shame, and we can’t use shame to change ourselves or others.” ~Brené Brown

“I don’t deserve to be happy.”

“I’ll never be good enough.”

“I’m not worthy of love.”

Sound familiar?

I hear phrases like this all the time in my work helping women walk through divorce. I heard it for years while I was working in women’s ministry. And it echoes back to me from my own experience. I’ve walked through a lot of broken stories from numerous aching souls.

These phrases all boil down to one core emotion: shame.

Throughout my life, I have been all too familiar with that emotion. I spent almost seventeen years in a destructive ma…

Journal of the American Geriatrics Society Research Summary

By now, we’re all aware that COVID-19 is especially dangerous for older adults—the older you are, the higher your risk for serious illness and even death if you contract the virus. Because there is no treatment or a vaccine yet, it’s vitally important that we practice social distancing and wear masks to protect ourselves from disease.

Sheer Stress in the Aging Heart Makes Immune Cells Inflammatory, Accelerating Cardiovascular Disease

Source https://www.fightaging.org/archives/2020/07/sheer-stress-in-the-aging-heart-makes-immune-cells-inflammatory-accelerating-cardiovascular-disease/

Researchers here note a process by which the hardening of heart valves, known as aortic valve stenosis, accelerates in its later stages. The condition causes greater sheer stress in blood flow, which in turn causes immune cells in the bloodstream to become more inflammatory. The resulting greater chronic inflammation in heart tissue accelerates the mechanisms that cause stenosis. This hardening of tissue is due to calcification; a growing fraction of cells in the valves adopt behav…

During Covid-19, do older adults take their prescribed meds?  Not necessarily. Medication non-adherence has long been a topic of concern, with the cost of poor adherence amounting to $177 billion each year, 50% of treatment failures, and as many as 25,000 deaths. And according to the Pharmacy Times, Covid-19 has made a problematic situation much worse.  Some pharmacy experts express concern about the pandemic’s side effects of isolation, job loss/loss income, me…

REACH2: Six tips to help regulate stress levels in our organizations

Source: https://sharpbrains.com/blog/2020/07/14/reach2-six-tips-to-help-regulate-stress-levels-in-our-organizations/

Recently, an employee at a major Ohio company lost his mother to coronavirus. Under normal circumstances, his colleagues would have offered expressions of support and sympathy in person. They would have attended a funeral or memorial service. They would have made a meal for his family. But, since the state was under stay-at-home orders, none of that was possible.

At first, the team looked to their manager for guidance about what to do. But the manager hadn’t faced a situation like this and didn’t really know. So, he reflected the question back to his team: “What do you think we can do to help?”

The team suggested a Zoom call that evening. A 30-minute planning call turned into 90 minutes of sharing their feelings and brainstorming how to express their sympathy, but also checking in on one another…
