xCT Knockout Modestly Extends Life in Mice

Source https://www.fightaging.org/archives/2022/03/xct-knockout-modestly-extends-life-in-mice/

As a general rule, methods that produce 10-20% life extension in mice are unlikely to prove all that interesting in humans. But it depends on what is going on under the hood. In most cases interventions act on life span by upregulating cellular stress response mechanisms, and there is more than enough evidence to suggest that this category of approaches is far more effective at extending life in short-lived species than is the case in long-lived species such as our own. In this case, the mechanism of interest may be anti-inflammatory, a reduction of age-related chronic inflammation. There is not yet a body of evidence to tell us whether or not this is less interesting in long-lived species such as our own, at the same time as there is a great deal of evidence telling us that <a href="https://www.fightaging.org/a…

Why We Don’t See Other People Clearly and How to Start

“If I had the chance I’d ask the world to dance, but I’d be dancing with myself.” ~Billy idol

Spending long periods of time alone—as I’ve done while traveling solo over the past year—is an eye-opening experience.

Without the distractions of my normal routine and relationships, I’ve been able to take a good look around inside my very own head. And the more I do this, the more I realize that what I experience as my world is just a reflection of my own psyche. In reality, I’m dancing with myself all the time.

This crucial awareness is usually hidden by the fact that other people seem to be the cause of my experience.

Most of us think that we’re dancing with others: friends, lovers, colleagues, family. But watching myself now I see tha…

CD26 Inhibition as a Strategy to Improve the Quality of Mesenchymal Stem Cell Therapies

Source https://www.fightaging.org/archives/2022/03/cd26-inhibition-as-a-strategy-to-improve-the-quality-of-mesenchymal-stem-cell-therapies/

First generation stem cell therapies are highly variable. While they fairly reliably suppress chronic inflammation for a time, other benefits vary widely from clinic to clinic and approach to approach. In part this may be because cells are hard to manage. Small differences in protocol, even unintentional differences, can produce large differences in outcome. Of late, researchers have started to ask whether variations in cell therapy outcomes may be in part mediated by a large variability in the degree to which cells become senescent in culture during the preparation for injection. Only a tiny proportion of cells need to be senescent in order to produce detrimental effects on the others. Thus researchers are now investigating the use of <a href…

The Ultimate Guide to Making Jell-O Shots

Source https://greatist.com/eat/jello-shot-recipe-ideas-tips

A frat party favorite, gateway shot of teenage girls through generations, and instant party starter, Jell-O shots have grown up with you. But how do you make them? And where do they come from?

Depending on what vibes you’re going for, you can create classic Jell-O shots in little plastic cups. A swankier take might have you constructing elegant squares with more refined flavors.

Vodka may be the most popular type of alcohol for Jell-O shots, but rum, whiskey, flavored liquors, grain alcohol, and even wine are all fair game, and they allow for maximum creativity with minimum effort.

Why Are My Eyelids So Freaking Dry?

Source https://greatist.com/health/dry-eyelids

Whether it’s the result of a harsh winter or eczema, dry skin can affect skin all over your body — including your eyelids.

Eyelid skin is super thin, making it easy for your lovely lids to be affected by drying environmental factors, external irritants, skin conditions, or even *gulp* aging. Dry eyelids can also come with symptoms like itching, flaking, scaling, and redness or discoloration.

Here’s how dryness can affect the lids of your peepers and how you can treat dry eyelids.

Why We’re Afraid of Real Connection and Why We Need Deeper Conversations Now

Source https://tinybuddha.com/blog/why-were-afraid-of-real-connection-and-why-we-need-deeper-conversations-now/

“It’s one of the great paradoxes of the human condition—we ask some variation of the question ‘How are you feeling?’ over and over, which would lead one to assume that we attach some importance to it.  And yet we never expect or desire—or provide—an honest answer.” ~Mark Brackett, Ph.D., Permission to Feel

I used to feel so satisfied if I had made them cry.
