The Practice of Truly Enjoying Time Off

Source https://zenhabits.net/time-off/

By Leo Babauta

So I took the whole month of June off, just as I did in December — I’m standing for time off not only for myself, but as something I think is important for everyone.

It wasn’t easy to take this month off. I had to make arrangements, sell it to my team and clients, get a bunch of work and content done ahead of time, and really stand my ground when people asked for my time. But I was clear that I wanted this time off. During this month, we had family get togethers, a family trip, an anniversary getaway, and plenty of relaxing and physical activity.

I took December off too, and that was a powerful experience for me. What I found is that I am not used to taking time off, and tend to be either in a work-hard-nonstop mode … or in a kind of malaise where I don’t feel like doing anything and am not fully enjoying life. It’s almost as if life has trained me not to enjoy time off…

Stem Cell Therapy Improves Mitochondrial Quality Control

Source https://www.fightaging.org/archives/2021/06/stem-cell-therapy-improves-mitochondrial-quality-control/

First generation stem cell therapies, such as those using cells derived from fat tissue, have been shown to reduce chronic inflammation. This effect is produced as a result of signaling from the transplanted cells, which near entirely die rather than surviving to integrate into tissues and perform useful work. Improvements to tissue regeneration and function are much less reliably obtained, however. There are no doubt many other effects of stem cell signaling on native cell behavior, a complicated area of research in which progress is slow an incremental.

Researchers here show that stem cell therapy can upregulate the mitochondrial quality control mechanism of mitophagy. This helps to clear out damaged <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wik…

How I’m Winning Over My Inner Critic by Letting It Exist

Source http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/tinybuddha/~3/0XBx5CWKfAk/

“Winning the war of words inside your soul means learning to defy your inner critic.” ~Steven Furtick

We all have that voice in our head, the voice that’s always negative about ourselves. Our inner voice.  Our inner critic.

The one that tells us we’re not good enough, not smart enough, not attractive enough. That voice that continuously compares us to other people, so we come up lacking and feeling less than.

Sometimes that voice is our own. Other times, and for some people, maybe those of us who have felt unloved or disliked by a significant person in our lives, that voice belongs to them.

Then there are times when that inner critic will take on the voice of multiple people. A parent, a past lover who jilted us, and an abusive boss, for…

Calorie Restriction Reduces the Number of Senescent T Cells in Older Mice

Source https://www.fightaging.org/archives/2021/06/calorie-restriction-reduces-the-number-of-senescent-t-cells-in-older-mice/

A sizable enough fraction of T cells of the adaptive immune system become senescent in old age to cause major issues. Senescent cells cease replication and secrete a mix of signals that cause harm in numerous different ways: rousing chronic inflammation; disrupting tissue maintenance and structure; encouraging other cells to become senescent. The cell dynamics of the immune system are quite different from those of tissues. Immune cells are provoked into replication by signals of damage or infection, and eno…

Perfect ProForm: A Review of ProForm's Stationary Bikes

Source https://greatist.com/fitness/proform-bike

The stationary bike market is a crowded one, and it’s easy to see why. A stationary bike is a great option when you can’t get to the gym, the weather is bad, or you’re short on time. It’s a low impact workout that’s easy on your joints. Plus, if you add a set of dumbbells, you’re working your whole bod.

ProForm, owned by fitness giant iFIT Health and Fitness (which also owns NordicTrack and Freemotion), is known for balancing quality with price, which means it’s a popular choice if you’re not willing to sell a kidney (but maybe donate plasma?) for a piece of…
