Yin yoga is a gentle, grounded practice that uses deep stretches to improve flexibility and strengthen your joints and connective tissue. While you may think of yoga as a steady flow from one pose to the next, Yin yoga slows things down… way down.
This go-slow form of yoga focuses on performing fewer poses but holding them longer. You may do only five or six Yin yoga poses in an hour of practice! With only a few movements per sesh, here’s how to choose your poses wisely.

Watch woes. It’s 1:15 PM and I haven’t charged my watch since this morning. Battery life matters to me. This week I was within seconds of buying a new smartwatch to replace the brand-new Apple Watch I had already bought just 2 months ago (don’t ask why I own that watch, since I have an Android phone). Why send it back? Because the battery was draining down crazily, half gone by lunchtime, just about all gone by supper, for a device that was supposed to average 18 hours on a single charge (“90 time checks, 90 notifications, 45 minutes of app use, 60 minute workout”). But as a last desperate move before placing an order, I scroll through <a href="https://discussions.apple.co…

I remember fondly, back in 2010, discovering that Tim Ferriss’ 4-Hour Body included a short section about vegan ultrarunner Scott Jurek’s diet, including his grocery list — the first we learned any of details about the Born to Run superstar’s food rituals.
Then, in 2012, Scott’s own book Eat & Run came out, with recipes at the end of each chapter.
To me, an aspiring vegan ultrarunner myself, these recipes were like gold.
The exact food a legend uses to fuel his training? Yes, please.
And that’s why in my new book, The Plant-Based Athlete (due out in just 3 days!), co-author Robert Cheeke and I dedicated a full quarter of the book to this kind of content.
After the first nine jam-packed chapters on nutrition and mindset weave in the stories of dozens of elite, pro, and Olympic plant-based athletes, the remaining 90…

It is not particularly controversial to say that aging causes Alzheimer’s disease, at least in the most common version of the condition in which there is no gene variant known to accelerate pathology. How exactly aging causes Alzheimer’s disease is very much debated, however. This is not unusual; most age-related conditions have the same issue and the same debate.
The end stage pathology of age-related conditions is fairly well mapped, and we have a good idea as to what the root causes of aging are, the forms of damage and disarray that accumulate as a result of the operation of a normal metabolism. In between what is known of the cause and what is known of the end result, the map is poor at best, however. Drawing clear lines of cause and effect between those two areas of study remains v…

“I really want to, but I can’t because [add semi-valid reason here].”
That’s a template sentence to let yourself off the hook.
It’s not copyrighted, so feel free to use it any time you want to let go of your dreams and not feel bad about it.
Honestly, it hurts me every time I hear someone say it. I see it for what it is—an excuse.
Every single one of us has ambitions, hopes, dreams, and goals. We fantasize about them on our commutes to work and before we sleep. We talk about how we will one day achieve them, but when it comes time to put them to action, we use that template sentence.
I had every reason to use the template sentence. I live in a third-world country in the Middle East. We suffer from a lack of water, electricity, security, and…
