Personal Training in San Antonio- What is the deal?

“To hell with this! ”

That was my reaction one day while at the gym at the end of a string of eight or so clients. At this point, I think there was little blood left in my body as the majority had been replaced with coffee. To say that I was a bit tired and cranky is an understatement.

This had nothing to do with the clients that I was working with or the gym where I worked. My clients and coworkers both kicked some serious ass. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed harder than I did during some of those hour-long sessions.

Still, personal training eventually drove me nearly crazy and finally led me to step to the side to pursue a different avenue. Now, admittedly, some of this was due to me personally wanting a career switch. I want to freelance full-time and needed to get some things in line to make that happen. The other factors, however, are still happening across the country and causing trainers to fail and drop out in droves.

The attrition rate for personal training is absolutely astounding. If you take a look at the trainers in your local gym one month, there’s a good chance that you won’t see the exact same faces the next month. In my opinion, attrition is somewhat needed as it continues to force out individuals who aren’…

The Shit They Don’t Tell You: 12 Things New Parents Need to Know

Source http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2016/07/25/the-shit-they-dont-tell-you-12-things-new-parents-need-to-know/

This article is written by NF Rebel Correspondent, Dan.

New parent? Thinking of having kids? Thinking of not having kids?

Today we’re going to bring you some hard truths.

I‘ve just had my third child because I am a crazy person I love being a dad so much, and there are still things that happen each day where I think ‘huh, never knew that!’ Even though I’ve been a parent educator for years, I still get shocked about how little I know.

I’ve spoken to hundreds of expectant mothers and fathers in ante-natal classes, giving them the general rundown on pregnancy, birthing, raising kids, child development and parenting. Today you are getting the real scoop: the stuff I don’t even cover there.

The decision to go for completion of the “parenting quest” is not to be made lightly. We’re going to arm you with the knowledge of traps, bosses, and challenges that lie ahead.

Being prepared is key, so let’s stock our inventory with some rarely passed on knowledge.

Weekend Food + Fitness

Source http://www.fannetasticfood.com/2016/07/25/weekend-food-fitness/

Hey guys! Boy, is it hot here. I took an Uber ride 1 mile this morning instead of walking – no shame. Can’t wait til it cools down and walking is actually enjoyable again!

We stuck around DC this weekend and got in some fun adventures despite the heat. On Friday night, Matt had to work late so I had a cozy solo night – I made a shrimp pasta Blue Apron dish (plus some additional frozen peas for more veg volume) and then kicked it on the couch with some Netflix. Super relaxing!

On Saturday morning, Matt and I hit up Urban Athletic Club (via ClassPass for me) for a fun boot camp workout with my buddy Kathleen. She’s almost 8 months pregnant now and still crushing it! So proud of her.

Reinventing Dessert: Espresso Chocolate Brownies

Source http://www.bornfitness.com/chocolate-brownies/

Sometimes you need a hug. Other times, you just need a brownie.

While we believe that desserts and snacks are a part of life, it’s understandable if some people want healthier versions of their favorite desserts. The trick: make substitutions that might sound like they won’t work, but when you taste the final product, you’ll never even realize the changes you made. Which is why we create things like protein ice cream or this recipe, espresso chocolate brownies.

This brownie recipe is a flourless version of the classic dessert. A traditional brownie is roughly 250 calories. This “healthy” recipe is about 60 percent fewer calories without any added sugar.

Enjoy these delicious treats to satisfy your nighttime cravings or store in the fridge and pack it in your lunch for a midday snack to keep you far (far) away from the break room donuts.

Why it’s a Healthy Recipe

Black beans—not-your-average main brownie ingredient—are a staple protein source for many non-meat eaters. Translation: you can eat more than one serving without loading up on too many calories. These legumes are also high in fiber, which helps aid digestion, and a great source of folic acid, magnesium, potassium, and iron.

Flu and Pneumonia Survey

Flu season is right around the corner, but less than one in seven respondents ages 50 and older report having received their flu shot this year. Not thinking they needed the shot, being concerned about possible side effects, or saying they never get the flu are the primary reasons respondents cite in this September 2007 telephone survey for not getting immunized.
